Smoking Cessation Program

SUPERVALU Pharmacies pharmacists are active in promoting health and wellness. For patients who smoke, quitting is the most important way to maintain or improve their general health and well-being. Pharmacists involved in the Smoking-Cessation Program are given the education and tools to help them identify patients who smoke and intervene on their behalf. These pharmacists take advantage of their unique position as healthcare professionals in the community. Through frequent and regular contact with people visiting the pharmacy and the trusting patient-pharmacist relationship, pharmacists can positively impact the lives of patients who smoke. The SUPERVALU Pharmacies smoking-cessation pharmacist not only helps patients who are ready to quit, they also motivate and encourage each and every patient who smokes, even those who are not yet ready to quit.

For patients who are ready to quit smoking, our pharmacists serve as their partners in the smoking-cessation process. The patient and pharmacist meet one-on-one to ensure a successful quit attempt. They work together to develop an individualized plan that may include both behavioral changes and pharmacotherapy. As the quit date approaches and the patient becomes a non-smoker, the pharmacist continues to provide support and encouragement through follow-up visits and telephone calls. Patients enrolled in the Smoking-Cessation Program receive ongoing support from the pharmacist for an entire year, allowing the patient’s individualized plan to be continually reassessed to prevent relapse and maintain the patient’s smoke-free status.
